Requisition Number: 188229BR Location: United States - Florida – Orlando Position Type: Full Time JOB OVERVIEW: Researches and writes news scripts JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: • Writes news stories for an assigned newscast, ensuring content is factually correct and written in a clear and concise conversational style • Verifies stories are written to the pictures being edited and/or vice versa • Follows through on all assignments meeting required deadlines according to the executive producer’s instructions • Fill-in producing newscasts and inserts as needed • Performs editing functions as needed • Works in a computerized newsroom environment • Performs other duties as assigned MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: • Bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism or related field or comparable television work experience and 1+ years’ experience in television news preferred KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES: • Bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism or related field or comparable television work experience and 1+ years’ experience in television news preferred • Strong broadcast news writing • Planning: ability to anticipate situations, meet strict deadlines • Interpersonal: has contact with media and general public with excellent collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively within a team environment and interact with all personnel within the organization • Knowledge of current events and industry trends • Communication: demonstrated excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills in English • Attention to detail • Must be able to work rapidly and accurately • Computer: working knowledge of; general office computer software, newsroom software and basic non-linear editing systems a plus • Pro-active with demonstrated enthusiasm in dealing with breaking news and high-stress situations • Editing: basic editing skills • Must adhere to attendance guidelines • Must be able and willing to work different shifts and be flexible with schedule changes WORKING CONDITIONS: • Works primarily inside a climate controlled environment throughout the year but might be assigned field duties on occasion • Sits for long periods of time. • Requires long periods of personal computer use and telephone communications • Works in an open newsroom setting with a semi-noisy environment • Communicates in person, by phone and by email • Must be able to work under time pressure deadlines and willing and able to work different shifts or longer shifts due to "breaking news" and severe weather emergencies.
