WKBN 27 First News needs a weather ace with, or working on, a meteorology-related degree to cover lake-effect snow, spring thunderstorms and a broad range of conditions in Northeast Ohio.
This is the perfect full-time opportunity for a meteorologist from a smaller market to get experience with a fantastic weather challenge.
We're looking for someone who believes in active weathercasting, generating your own forecast, tracking down to the street level and being first with breaking weather and news. You also need to be passionate about reporting local enterprise stories.
This meteorologist will forecast for the weekend newscasts and multiple digital platforms. During the week, you will report and shoot as a Multimedia Journalist, you could fill in for meteorologists on our 3 network affiliated stations, produce weather or even produce newscasts. This job will teach it all and help you grow.
Our news team produces 8 ½ hours of live news on WYTV, WKBN & WYFX every day from 2 studios. WKBN recently launched a pioneering, state-of-the-art virtual reality studio with some of the coolest weather imagery imaginable.
We have the resources to cover the big weather events: 2 live trucks, live backpacks, laptop editors and a remote production truck.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
• Produce and report weather and/or science related stories across all media platforms.
• Present live weather reports from the station as well as in the field.
• Write weather stories and update forecast information on station website.
• Develop innovative and creative ways of presenting the daily weather story.
• Create maps and graphics to illustrate weather conditions.
• Solid vocal delivery, camera presence, and clear enunciation.
• Strong reporting skills.
• Understand importance of social media.
• Proficiency with WSI weather systems.
• Detail oriented.
Education/Experience: At least three years of on-air television experience in forecasting and presenting weather. Certified meteorologist desired.
Training/Equipment: Operate newsroom computer systems.
Work Environment/Mental/Physical Requirements: High stress environment with deadline pressures. Some travel may be required. Position requires work on weekends and holidays. Work may be performed in extreme outdoor temperatures.
