Requisition Number: 198677BR Location: United States - Florida - Orlando Area of Interest: Cable Television Production, Editorial, Network Television Production, News, Television/Programming Position Type: Full Time JOB SUMMARY Managerial oversight for the assignment desk MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Direct supervision of assignment and planning editors Works with News Director to create individual development plans for all desk editors Directs field personnel as needed in assigning news coverage and stories, working with shift Executive Producers Schedules assignment desk personnel and talent Participates in hiring process of desk personnel Gathers and researches story ideas through beat calls and reading wire services, newspapers, magazines and social media Demonstrates news judgment in selecting and/or recommending stories Assigns stories to reporters in collaboration with an Executive Producer, News Director and/or the Sr. Director of News Maintains communication with all personnel involved with newscast Coordinates with Assignment Desk at both LPG News stations for coverage sharing Creates and distributes coverage grid to sister stations and authorized partners Fills in as Assignment Editor on occasion Follow through on all assignments meeting required deadlines Work in a computerized newsroom environment Performs other duties as assigned REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Skills/Abilities and Knowledge Interpersonal: has contact with media and general public with excellent collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively within a team environment and interact with all personnel within the organization Leadership: must be proficient at inspiring staff to attain station goals of creativity, urgency and accuracy Communication: demonstrated excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills in English Planning: ability to anticipate situations and plan over a one- to two-year time span Management: ability to anticipate situations, meet strict deadlines, organize, and manage multiple priorities Attention to detail Must be able to work rapidly and accurately Knowledge of current events and industry trends Pro-active with demonstrated enthusiasm in dealing with breaking news and high-stress situations Training: must be able to effectively train others Computer: working knowledge of; general office computer software, and newsroom software Must adhere attendance guidelines Must be able and willing to work different shifts, report to work on time, and be flexible with schedule changes Preferred QUALIFICATIONS Skills/Abilities and Knowledge Education Bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism, management or related field or comparable television management work experience Related Work Experience 5+ years’ of assignment desk experience in television news preferred Working Conditions To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
