KSAZ/KUTP – Director of Engineering Assist VP of Engineering with design, specifications, documentation, oversight and installation of all systems and equipment. Develop and maintain thorough understanding of existing facilities and work toward making units safer, cohesive and responsive to departments within station environment. Assist the VP Engineering to maintain operational continuity and budgetary compliance of engineering and news technical including mechanical systems and tower/transmitter oversight. Assist with implementation of current and long-range technical operation plans and manage departmental expenses. Assist with the development and implementation of new methods and standards to streamline operation and ensure that all projects are properly implemented and executed. Maintain and update three year building/future technology plan. Responsible for station compliance with FCC, OSHA, EPA and local regulations. Manage established procedures and standards for operation and maintenance of equipment and proper studio operations. Assist with maintenance personnel management to include hiring, evaluating, training and discipline. Maintain engineering systems to ensure fault tolerant and error free operation of Station(s)’ broadcast equipment; daily oversight of local Hub/Spoke technology assuring efficient error free operations. Extensive knowledge of all broadcast systems and knowledge of government regulations and industry standards required ensuring the stations’ technical compliance. Degree in Electronics/Electrical Engineering, Computer Sciences or related field; formal technical training from military or trade school on current broadcast technologies can substitute. Proficiency with AVID, Sony and Panasonic systems are highly desired. A minimum of five (5) years TV broadcast experience preferred. Previous supervisory responsibilities required. Significant technical expertise in the planning, implementation and maintenance of television station facilities, including RF facilities. Understanding of digital and automation technology is essential. Requires a strong leader with an ability to direct and motivate technical staff. Knowledge of ECL and iTX environments. Current, relevant experience with digital video compression/encoding techniques, ATSC /MPEG transmission, and Bitcentral Newsroom is a definite plus. Working knowledge of the following technologies: full power UHF and VHF transmitters and low power translators, microwave systems, encoding technologies, master control and production automation systems, wired and wireless networking technologies, server and file-based storage hardware. Strong follow-through, written communications, and interpersonal skills required. Light sitting, standing, bending, walking, stair climbing, driving, and lifting a maximum of 50 lbs. is also required. Must have a General Class FCC license and/or SBE certification. Varied and extended hours, weekends, holidays req. Local/national travel req. Proficiency w/ Word, Excel, and PowerPoint software. Must be able to manage multiple tasks in a fast paced environment with excellent attention to detail, accuracy and strong org. skills.
