Job Title Reporter, News Education Bachelor's Degree Career Level Experienced (Non-Manager) Location Nexstar - KLAS - Las Vegas, NV 89109 US (Primary) Category News Job Type Full-time Job Description 8 News NOW, KLAS-TV, CBS Las Vegas, has an immediate opening for a talented, skilled journalist who can uncover local, impactful stories with a drive to impact and inform our community as a Reporter working with a high-energy, Emmy® award winning team of journalists at 8 News Now. Skills, Duties and Responsibility requirements: Present and produce relevant enterprise stories Exceptional storytelling skills Utilize social media platforms (Twitter, Facebook, Facebook Live and others) to properly communicate and engage with viewers Write compelling news copy for website and digital platforms as needed. Respond quickly to breaking news Sound news judgement Active community involvement Weekly networking requirements Commitment to story accuracy supported by thorough research and complete background analysis Check reference materials (books, news files, public records) and make FOIA requests. Regular attendance at local events including political, news, sports, arts, social and other functions. Evaluate news assignments, leads and tips to develop story ideas. Revise work to meet editorial approval and/or meet established or shifted deadlines Ensure all content meets Nexstar standards for journalistic integrity and production quality Perform special projects, sweep stories and other duties as assigned Work experience and education required for position: Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience. Minimum two years’ experience in news reporting. Proficiency with computers, telephones, copiers, scanners, fax machines and other office equipment. Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
