ideasteam, Northeast Ohio’s innovative multiple media organization, has an exciting opportunity for a Chief Engineer. ideastream owns and operates one public TV and two public radio stations, and jointly owns and operates a broadcast tower. Located in Playhouse Square, Cleveland’s vibrant theatre district, this organization is situated in a diverse, stimulating, and creative area. Cleveland is on the rise and has a small town feel with big city amenities and culture. Position Summary: Primary accountability, in partnership with the Broadcast Manager, for managing WVIZ/PBS, WCLV, and WCPN ideastream engineering process and related distribution and receive systems in support of broadcast, maintenance, and design of new or emerging technical systems Essential duties and responsibilities: •Responsible for the RF broadcast chain for both TV and Radio •Work in partnership with the Broadcast Manager to assure that all FCC technical licenses are renewed as required. •Direct and manage staff, train, coach, counsel and assure performance and morale. •Ensures compliance with all FCC and FAA rules and regulations. •Identify and make recommendations for organization’s short and long term distribution needs. •Prepare and administer approved annual engineering capital and operating budgets including bidding and purchasing according to approved guidelines for all RF systems. •Represent ideastream to and participate in professional technical organizations. •Work in partnership with the Broadcast Manager to assure that Capital Inventory is accurately maintained. •Prepare federal and state grant applications for capital funds related to technical equipment. •Responsible for A/V operations and connectivity at the Idea Center •Responsible for facility maintenance (HVAC, CRAC units, UPS systems, etc) •Responsible for the maintenance and upgrade of ideastream’s broadcast truck •Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Knowledge/skills/aptitudes: In-depth knowledge of technologies of television, radio, audio, RF, computers and power distribution. Knowledge of general FCC rules and regulations Demonstrated technical knowledge and competencies. Leadership and supervisory skills. Demonstrated ability to integrate a variety of activities. General management skills in budgeting, planning, and personnel supervision. Experience: Seasoned level of experience in RF engineering management Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering; or ten years broadcast engineering experience and supervision. Essential Physical Demands and Working Environment: Ability to see, communicate, hear and utilize electronic communication devices.
