WJRT has an opening for a full-time Sports Reporter to report the Sports segment during the week and weekends.
THIS IS NOT AN ENTRY LEVEL POSITION
WJRT is seeking a candidate who is motivated and energetic! Have the ability to channel that energy on local/collegiate and professional sports.
Carry out the vision of the Sports Director for sportscasts and sports programming; and the ability to go the extra mile and highlight sports packages.
Possess a strong sports broadcast coverage background. Requires an individual to be able to switch gears quickly.
Ideal candidate will have a strong passion for high school, college and professional sports.
Travel may be necessary for this position. The position includes working weekend and holidays.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
-Writes and delivers sports stories in a clear and concise manner.
-Assists Sports Director in writing/editing/researching/coordinating sports programming and other content.
-Responds to breaking sports events and other urgent newsrooms situations as required.
-Works closely with the Sports Director in developing sports coverage.
-Participates in promotional activities including public appearances.
-Performs special projects and other duties as assigned.
-Set up/execute video live shots for sports
-Maintains sports video equipment.
-Edits video for television broadcasts and content.
-Writes stories for the website and other social media platforms.
-Interacts with viewers and users on social media sites.
Requirements and Skills:
-Bachelor's degree in Broadcast Journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work related experience.
-Comprehensive knowledge of sports and sports related activities.
-Excellent communication skills, both oral and written with the ability to ad lib when required.
-Superior on-air presence with at least 3+ years in Sports Reporting/Anchoring
-Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
-Write and post daily on all digital platforms including social media.
-Possess and maintain a valid driver's license with a good driving record.
-Develop story ideas, write, shoot and edit sports/news stories for on-air broadcasting.
-Write in an exciting, captivating and authentic manner.
-Use the latest editing and photography tools to tell great stories.
-Develop original content through social listening and independent sources.
-Deliver on-air news events in an engaging, exciting, and accurate manner.
-Interview news subjects and research for facts and credibility.
-Develop sources that allow you to break stories.
-Operate news gathering vehicle to and from various locations.
-Flexibility to work any shift.
