San Diego State University Research Foundation Req No. 2017-6359 Category Radio/TV/Multimedia Type Full-Time Contract Salary Starting at $22.60/hour DOE Dept\/Proj Name KPBS Close Date Overview Under the general direction of the Director of Marketing and the direct supervision of the On Air Fundraising Manager and Senior Producer, the Producer will be responsible for implementing the tactics required to meet the fundraising goals of the radio and television fundraising campaigns conducted throughout the year at KPBS; testing and implementing new online revenue opportunities including on-air promotions/campaigns to increase online revenue year round; providing production, coordination and administrative support during on air television campaigns; and working collaboratively with the membership marketing staff on various tactics related to the online fundraising site. This position is covered under the SAG/AFTRA collective bargaining agreement with KPBS. Responsibilities • In the area of Radio On-Air Fundraising, will implement Creative/Strategic Plans for successful radio membership campaigns including live producing, writing and editing scripts and producing fundraising spots; coordinate the in-campaign schedules, set daily and hourly goals and adjust goals as needed; coordinate the talent schedule; maintain the script library, collaborate with key personnel to develop effective fundraising offers, pitch breaks and thank you gifts. • Maintain highest standards of production values in TV and Radio production. • Collaborate with the relevant department heads (OAF, membership, development) and the premium coordinator to ensure that the selection of radio premiums, and other thank you gift incentives, effectively support each campaign's revenue objectives, creative and Strategic goals, and remain within expense allocations. • Work with outside consultants who may be hired to assist with the planning and production of radio campaigns. • Write, produce and edit fundraising spots for both radio and television, and assist in supervision of work provided by other producers. • Write and Produce national and local pledge event and pledge breaks including hands-on coordination of live studio productions, pre-taped breaks, interstitial spots, live broadcasts, script and premium spot writing, talent performance, final review of scripts and delivery of the final product to the outside client. • Produce fundraising programs for local and national distribution on KPBS, and other PBS stations nationwide as needed. • Coordinate and/or assist with the training and auditioning of FM and TV talent as required; provide leads on prospective hosts to ensure that the station establishes a talent base that reflects the diversity within the KPBS viewing and listening audience. • Assist with the production of television fundraising campaigns including script writing, creation of on-air graphics and video editing, program and other related research, coordination of assignment information for freelance writers and/or producers to execute their tasks. • Coordinate online fundraising activities including online fundraising campaigns outside of the on air fundraising campaign schedule; maintenance of the online pledge form and routine updates to the kpbs.org pledge form with premium images, text, and welcome messages to match specific campaign and station strategies; collaboration and support on developing promotions and spots for the web site. • Write and Produce radio spots for use during the fundraising campaigns. These will include testimonials from members, spots with NPR reporters and other support spots. • Supervise student assistants when they are updating the web site with premium images and text. • Create and maintain production schedules to ensure all deadlines are met, and all elements are delivered to traffic on a timely basis. • Administration of production management process, both TV and Radio. • Assist in updating the "Standard Operating Procedures" for the OAF department. • Assist in the creation and production of creative marketing campaigns. • Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Knowledge and Abilities • Exceptional scriptwriting experience with ability to write for different audiences required. • Must have advanced-level knowledge of computer applications, software and website functions. Proficiency in Dreamweaver and Adobe Photoshop and the Microsoft Office suite of products required. Understanding of html code and Web applications required. • Proficiency with Final Cut Pro editing system and Adobe Photoshop software. (Expert level preferred) • Ability to adapt quickly to changing circumstances and technical demands, and to adapt performance as priorities and circumstances change. • Frequent early morning, night and weekend work is required of approximately 30 days per year. Availability during all scheduled fundraising campaigns throughout the year is required. Vacation during key fundraising periods (February, March, April, June, August, September, October and the first half of December) should be avoided. • Data management skills required. Ability to identify and describe in detail technical glitches in database functionality and make recommendations for improvement. • Highly organized. Ability to coordinate a variety of tasks, set priorities, and meet deadlines. Experience • Minimum of three years progressively responsible related professional experience preferred. • Minimum of three years editing experience with Final Cut Pro, graphics and audio editing systems. Education • Bachelor's degree in TV/Radio Production, Fundraising, Communications, Marketing or equivalent experience required.
