The Investigative Producer/Reporter will research, produce, and may present high quality investigative stories on air or on other media platforms. Must be a strong journalist with an investigative and research background who is expected to create award winning level stories that impact the lives of CBS46 viewers. This position generates story ideas; researches and field produces investigative stories and specials; manages franchise stories; and contributes strong journalistic stories and elements to daily newscasts. This position will also contribute to other special projects, including sweeps features, documentaries, station events, and awards entries. Work performed is for all media platforms and initiatives, including: on-air, web, and social media. II. Essential Job Functions - Weight % 40% - Generate, produce, and execute investigative stories and special project stories per station strategy and research priorities. May include creating or working with others to create graphics, writing, booth or field production. 30% - Generate, produce and execute regular franchise stories for anchors and reporters. Monitor and disseminate online/phone in tips to the investigative team or general assignment as enterprise stories. May require initial phone calls or research. 10% - Presents stories on air or for other media platforms. 10% - Assist with coordinating investigative team and/or sweeps calendars to meet deadlines and support content requirements. Facilitate communication with other areas within and outside the news department. 5% - Follow actions of local government and business leaders on a regular basis. May require attending board meetings, interviewing officials, and monitoring issues of continuing community interest. 5% - Produce newscasts on a fill-in basis as needed. III. Minimum Qualifications and Job Requirements | All must be met to be considered. Education: Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism, Communications or related field, or equivalent training and/or experience. Experience: Minimum three years’ experience as producer, reporter, or equivalent in a daily news operation. Experience with investigative reporting and producing preferred. Experience in top 50 market also preferred. Specific/Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: o Knowledge of libel/slander/privacy laws as well as knowledge and experience navigating legal channels in relationship to vetting stories. o Investigative research skills with the ability to navigate investigative tools including LexisNexis, Pacer and public sources of information. o Knowledge of local, state and federal laws that impact the collection and broadcasting of investigative material. o Advanced computer and web publishing skills. o Ability to multi task and manage short and long-term projects. o Strong organizational and time management skills. o Knowledge of video editing. o Must be a self-starter with ability to work under minimal supervision. o Must have the ability to motivate and inspire to create a team-oriented environment within the investigative unit and newsroom in general o Ability to work a flexible work schedule. o Ability to make quick decisions without losing composure. o Strong verbal and written communication skills. o I-news experience preferred o In-depth understanding of broadcast and digital journalism. % Travel Required (Approximate): 25%
