Category: News Position/Title: Multimedia Editor/Producer Details: The Multimedia Assignment Editor manages all incoming content to the newsroom and communicates crucial information to the staff. Strong organization and communication skills a must. The right candidate will work well under pressure and have an insatiable appetite for news gathering. The Multimedia Assignment Editor realizes we live in a world where on-air and online platforms work in sync and can champion both platforms. 40% Manage incoming news content from all mediums – phone, email, Social Media, news release or other planning process. Manage both communication and the flow of information from all sources – remote locations, news scenes, etc… Manage the flow of information from outside the station/newsroom to inside all the various news portals within the station – (iNews, Outlook, etc…). Directly manage news and communicate deadlines and expectations. 25% First-line producer of the Continuous News operation – post breaking news, news releases, and all related material (pictures, video clips, file attachments) to WSMV website and social media platforms. Monitor scanners and all other news sources. Monitor websites and social media messages of pertinent news-making agencies, individuals and news sources, and alert newsroom personnel to all pertinent developments. Organize and update planner with late-breaking news, web news, future planning. Generate stories for future news content use. 25% Post breaking news content to WSMV.com before news crews arrive on the scene. Strategically engage / participate in the Social Media conversation. 10% Manage non-broadcast content in Web Planner. Maintain morgue/story files. Update desk files / contact list with relevant information including addresses, numbers, etc. Respond to all incoming calls from the public. Experience: One to two years experience as an assignment editor preferred at a commercial or public television station preferred Requirements: Must have excellent news judgment and organizational skills.Thorough knowledge of news gathering equipment and sources.Knowledge of Nashville DMA helpful.Must have in-depth knowledge of current events.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Ability to multi- task and maintain calm and focus in a hectic and fast paced environment.Ability to work under the pressure of tight deadlines and last minute changes Ability to work well with diverse groups of individuals. Ability to work a flexible work schedule which could include mornings, nights and/or weekends.
