News Associate Producer
The news associate producer will gather, write and edit news material. The right candidate will be able to generate story ideas, write and produce materials for on-air, online or digital platforms. The news associate producer must work closely with producers, managers and all employees to develop stories, creating graphics, and coordinating with reporters in the field on any production elements needed for their on-air presentations. The news associate producer will often fill in for line producers, web producers and assignment editors. As such, they must understand a broad range of systems used for news gathering. Other duties as deemed appropriate and as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent work experience required. Minimum three years’ experience working in a news room. The news associate producer must be able to write news copy clearly, in broadcast style, for on-air, online, and other digital platforms. Requires a thorough understanding of all journalistic standards and broadcast production techniques. Must be able to assemble news material in a logical and organized fashion and present finished stories in a professional and engaging manner for viewers/readers to be able to comprehend the latest local, national, and international news. Ability to contribute ideas on a daily basis and to recognize what types of stories would make for interesting and compelling television. Ability to adapt to a fast paced quickly changing environment and to react in live situations to cover breaking news, etc. Ability to establish and maintain harmonious relationships with peer and supervisors and to develop contacts in the community to aid in news gathering.
