WGN-TV has an immediate opening for a Per Diem Audio Operator Engineer to work in a dynamic broadcast environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for audio of fast paced newscasts and recorded programming. The successful candidate will be able to listen to director’s commands and react swiftly and accurately. Must be able to mix a clean show during live and pre-recorded programming. Must be able to route a good mix minus to remotes, set up RF microphones and IFBs. The candidate must be able to communicate and document effectively and concisely to the rest of the team. Interested candidate must be a team player. Other engineering experience a plus in areas of technical director, robotic camera, transmission or Steadicam. Requirements College graduate or equivalent experience. Communications, Electronic Technology or related degree is helpful. Excellent PC skills. Ability to sit for long periods. Able to execute commands based upon verbal or written directives. High visual and aural acuity. Ability to work with a team. Ability to work under deadlines with tight time constraints. Highly stressful environment at times. Strong work ethic, positive attitude and leadership qualities a must. Desired Experience and Skills: Previous live show audio mixing experience required. Experience with Wheatstone Audio boards preferred. Two years of experience in professional live broadcast operations (radio/TV/cable) required. You must be detail-oriented and have the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment. Must be self-sufficient and have a press-on-regardless attitude. Must work well in a collaborative team environment. The WGN-TV facility originates WGN-TV/Channel 9 as well as three national networks and a 24-hour cable news operation. This position will require shift work which includes nights, weekends and holidays, along with overtime as situations demand.
