WGN-TV has a rare opportunity for a dynamic journalist to be our next News Director, heading up the preeminent news operation in a top 3 broadcasting market. Responsibilities include overseeing all aspects of our multi-platform news operation and related talent and staff to provide timely and relevant news for broadcast on WGN-TV/CLTV, and our digital affiliates. Develops and manages the newsroom budget and provides guidance on newsworthiness of current events and breaking news to maximize our coverage and determine how best to deploy and utilize available resources for all distribution platforms. Requires a degree in journalism or equivalent related experience, advanced degree preferred. Typically requires 7 to 10 years of newsroom management experience within a top 20 market television station. Multiple market experience a plus. Proven journalistic skills and knowledge of worldwide news events required. Must possess strong, effective communication and leadership skills in order to direct a large and diverse news staff to maintain a consistent and high quality news product on-air.
