Emerson College’s Department of Visual & Media Arts seeks candidates to teach multi-camera television studio and field production. The positions are offered at the rank of Assistant Professor (tenure-track) or Artist-in-Residence (full-time, non-tenure-track).  The appointment begins September 1, 2019 with a mandatory 2-day orientation August 22 & 23, 2019. Qualifications: If applying for the Assistant Professor position, applicants should hold an MFA or other terminal degree, and show evidence of an ongoing creative practice in multi-camera production. Assistant Professors should show promise of nationally recognized achievement as an artist or scholar. If applying as an Artist-in-Residence, applicants should show evidence of substantial professional experience in one or more multi-camera television genres.   For both positions, the following apply:  experience as a producer or director utilizing multi-camera studio or field production techniques is required. Experience with comedy production is desired.  Teaching experience at the college level is strongly preferred.  A demonstrated commitment to diversity in professional work and teaching is in keeping with the department’s values. A strong commitment to undergraduate education beyond the classroom is essential. The Department of Visual & Media Arts wishes to enhance its curriculum in the areas of multi-camera studio and field television production, so candidates should speak to their vision of the future of television and media-making. Primary responsibilities will be teaching introductory-to-advanced undergraduate classes and MFA-level graduate classes in multi-camera television/video production both in the studio and in the field.  The successful candidates will work with faculty from other disciplines (such as producing, sound, cinematography, etc.) to invigorate the television curriculum.  In addition, they will be expected to create deeper connections to other departments, programs, and student organizations. Courses may serve students in Comedic Arts, Journalism, Business of Creative Enterprises, or Sports Communication in addition to VMA.  Working collaboratively with The Emerson Channel co-curricular student group is a key component of the position. Additional responsibilities include academic advising, student mentorship, support for admissions, and serving on department and college committees.
