Assignment Content Manager (Full-Time, Regular) WJBK's News Department is seeking an individual for an immediate opportunity as an Assignment Content Manager. This individual will have a supervisory role in the multitude of functions performed by a successful assignment desk. Key responsibilities for daily news operations include: coordinating and managing the operation of the assignment desk, which investigates and sets up stories for reporters on a daily basis, and assigns reporters and photographers with precise attention to logistics. This individual will be required to multitask and handle high stress situations, match coverage needs with available resources, verify story details, adjust instantaneously to breaking news situations, and maintain ongoing dialogue with broadcast and digital producers. Individual will be responsible for key planning activities, which include: looking ahead to make sure scheduled events like court hearings, news conferences and major sporting events are listed for coverage and covered with necessary staffing, along with servicing all of our platforms. Must also maintain sufficient staff levels on all shifts, processing vacation requests and sick calls, managing per diem staff and shift selection in accordance with union agreements, verification of hours worked, and bi-weekly approval of timecards. Must have strong knowledge of television news and digital production techniques, as well as, newsroom computer systems. Must demonstrate strong news judgment, problem-solving skills and commitment to journalistic principles. We require a command of social media involvement with viewers and users. A geographical and historical knowledge of Metro Detroit is a strong plus. Must be a good communicator with proven supervisory skills, and the demonstrated ability to create and support a collaborative team environment. Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent work experience required. Three plus years in a medium to major market newsroom environment with direct assignment desk experience. Must have command of local and national events and recognize important developments in those stories. Must have ability to cultivate and maintain sources for newsgathering purposes, and conceive enterprising stories unique to WJBK-Fox 2.
