The combined newsroom of KY3 and KSPR in beautiful Springfield, MO is expanding its award-winning investigative team with an exciting opportunity for an experienced investigative MMJ. Our consumer unit is all about viewers and ranges from advocacy journalism to scams, recalls and investigations. We want investigations that affect change and make a difference for our viewers. The right person for the job will be a reporter who can combine computer-assisted reporting, data-mining and curious research skills with the ability to personalize stories around real people. Must be a creative storyteller with the ability to shoot, write and editing compelling stories. Must be able to ask the tough questions and confront people as needed. Must also be able to do some quick-turn investigations that deepen the top story of the day. This is not an entry level position. We are looking for someone with at least three years’ experience at a television station as a reporter or MMJ. Must be an organized, independent, ethical and dogged journalist with a passion for investigative local news. Essential Functions: • Will dig into complex and important issues • Enterprise investigative stories daily • Interview news subjects to determine facts and credibility • Be able to present exciting live reports with current technology • Enterprise, send and follow up on FOIA/Sunshine requests to local, state and federal agencies • Shoot, write and edit day-turn investigative content to enhance news of the day coverage for all platforms • Develop numerous sources within the community to learn about important issues • Work with anchors, senior investigative MMJ, EPs and news director on targeted special reports each month • Develop new and additional creative content specifically for digital and other platforms , boldly advance the brand across those platforms • Organize data and finding stories within spreadsheets and databases • Conduct computer assisted research • Demonstrate sound news judgment, collaborate with others to present the story in the best way • Attend/host/speak at community service, schools, and community events; meet and greet viewers • Follow clothing and appearance guidelines • Must be a visual storyteller; perform creative stand-ups and explanatory, moving live shots • Evenings, weekends, mornings and holidays will be required • Make regular beat checks • Be willing to learn or possess a broad and working knowledge of the viewing area, including people, places, things, and history • Critique, feedback, and training are part of the job • Perform other job-related duties as assigned Abilities and Experience: • Must have a proven track record of successful television stories. Experience with investigative stories is required. • Must have ability to use web and social media to promote stories, drive engagement, find sources and stories, research stories, and do Facebook live reports with additional information on investigative stories • At least 3 years of experience preferred as MMJ, reporter and/or investigative producer • Experience in computer assisted reporting • Experience in photojournalism, editing and content management systems online • Be able to write in a clear, concise, conversational manner • Possess excellent interview and conversational writing skills • Excellent live reporting skills and strong on-camera presentation skills • Basic computer knowledge, including newsroom software (such as ENPS), Microsoft applications, and Internet use • Ability to carry, shoot and edit video with digital cameras • Able to work independently with limited supervision • Ability to meet tight deadlines and work well under pressure • Strong initiative and attention to detail • Demonstrate solid news judgment and journalistic ethics • Maintain professional and ethical conduct at the station and in the community • Ability to maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving in a manner that will mesh well with co-workers, supervisors and viewers • Must stay current with national and local news/weather, know what is going on in the community Working Conditions: • Requires sitting 45% of the time and standing or walking 55% of the time, and some driving • Outdoor work in all weather conditions is to be expected in this position • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to stand, walk, talk, hear, use hands and fingers, reach, grab, handle or feel, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl, regularly sit, talk, and hear. • Some nights, weekends and holidays will be required. Schedule changes should be expected • Occasional local and national travel is required Licensing Requirements: • Must hold a valid Missouri driver’s license and be insurable.
