Category: Engineering Position/Title: Director of Engineering Details: WSMV, a Meredith Corporation TV station, is searching for a Director of Engineering to supervise all maintenance and operational staff in the technical department. This position will ensure that the station operates efficiently and in compliance with all federal, state and local agencies. The Director of Engineering will oversee physical plant operations and improvements including all electronic television equipment as well as building-related issues; will develop foresight into the technical future of broadcasting; and will identify cost reductions and business opportunities through technology. This position is critical in the strategic plan for capital acquisitions for the broadcast station. Vacancy Type: Full Time Date Posted: 4/8/2019 Closing Date: 5/8/2019 City: Nashville - 37209 State: Tennessee URL: https://www.meredith.com/viewjobopenings Experience: Essential Job Functions 35% - Manages personnel of the Technical Department and oversees maintenance of all station broadcast equipment. 20% - Manages the daily operations of the studio and transmitter facilities including modernization, new construction, safety, and security. 10% - Effectively communicates with staff and other departments within the station. Participates in staff meetings and takes action to ensure information is disseminated between staff and other departments - news/promotion/ and production especially. 10% - Prepares and manages the annual fiscal operating budget for the technical department. Ensures department spending is within budget. 10% - Oversees project management of plant improvements, new construction and news/production assignments. Ensures completion by estimated timeline and brings project in or under budget. 5% - Maintains the physical plant (studio/transmitter) to acceptable levels of operational requirements by OSHA, FCC, federal, state and local agencies. Performs hands-on technical equipment maintenance. 5% - Prepares and manages the department and capital equipment budget. Reviews equipment and facility requirements for purchase of additional and replacement items. 5% - Others duties as assigned, including but not limited to, the engineering portion of the Strategic and Business Resumption plans, and compliance with corporate policies. Requirements: Minimum Qualifications and Job Requirements: Education: Bachelor's degree or trade school degree in electronics or broadcast engineering or equivalent technical training and/or experience. Experience: Minimum of 7 years experience as Chief Engineer/Director of Engineering or 5 years as Assistant Chief Engineer in television broadcasting Experience at a major news operation is preferred Demonstrated experience in personnel management SBE certification preferred Thorough understanding of FCC rules and regulations General knowledge of all engineering fields including electrical, electronics, mechanical and civil engineering with a thorough understanding of electronics and broadcast engineering management.
