Category: Engineering Position/Title: RF Systems/Facilities Mamager Details: WSMV, a Meredith Corporation TV Station, is seeking a RF Systems & Facilities Manager that will be responsible for managing all transmitter and RF repairs and maintenance including new system design and installation. The RF Systems and Facilitates Manager will also manage the staff that performs structure, physical plant and grounds maintenance and repair tasks at transmitter sites. The ideal candidate will be responsible for oversight of maintenance vendor annual contracts in areas including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, generators, vehicles, transmitters & towers, grounds maintenance and cleaning. The RF Systems & Facilities Manager will primarily be responsible for the repair and maintenance of all mechanical and electronic components associated with the station’s RF broadcast equipment, including SD and HD transmitters, microwave transmitters and weather radar. This person will also assist station maintenance engineers with repairs of conventional broadcast and computer equipment located within the broadcast facility, and with the maintenance of mobile production, SNG and ENG vehicles. Specific duties include repair (to board or component level as appropriate) of power supplies, exciters, intermediate and high-power RF amplifiers, microwave transmitters and receivers, monitors, encoders, audio and video amplifiers, waveform monitors and vectorscopes, microwave transmitters and receivers, and other electronic equipment generally associated with a broadcast television station. Transmitter engineers must also have a working knowledge of personal computers, basic computer networking, and computer operating systems; be able to install and configure computer hardware and software, and troubleshoot computer-related problems.Because of the nature of the duty, RF Systems and Facilities Managers are required to be available on a 24/7 basis to address emergency problems. This is a primary requirement of the position.Transmitter engineers are also responsible for assuring that the operation of all station broadcast equipment meets F.C.C. specifications. II. RF transmitter training preferred. Experience: Three to five years maintaining solid state and tube type full power transmitters, translators, and microwave, video and audio equipment. Requirements: Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Proficiency with spectrum analyzer, oscilloscopes, digital multi-meters, power meters and other test equipment used to repair and calibrate transmitter, microwave, video, audio and associated equipment. Familiarity with all FCC regulations concerning television broadcasting, LPTV and EAS. Familiarity with commercial HVAC systems and controls Familiarity with commercial electrical supply and switching systems Ability to negotiate contract pricing and coverage with maintenance vendors Ability to be on-call for specified times. Must be detail oriented and highly accurate in record keeping and work habits. Good verbal and written communication skills. Must be comfortable working in a highly automated, highly computer intensive environment. Ability to learn different software applications. Ability to work well under pressure and during equipment failure modes while maintaining a proper and accurate air signal at all times.
