The WTIU/WFIU Newsroom is hiring a News Producer/Journalist in Bloomington, IN. We are looking for a highly motivated self-starter to join our team. Department RADIO-TELEVISION SERVICES (BL-RTVS-IUBLA) Department Information Indiana University - Radio & Television Services, WTIU Public Television, and WFIU Public Radio serves south-central Indiana, producing a wide range of radio and television programs for local, state, and national distribution, as well as many non-broadcast productions for the university and community. Job Summary The News Producer/Journalist is part of the WFIU/WTIU News Bureau, and works in a team environment with full-time, part-time, and student journalists. Stays current in, and teaches student interns and stringers about, audio, Internet, and video news operations. Responsible for: participating in daily story meetings and pitching original ideas that can be featured in daily newscasts, in feature segments, special broadcast segments, and online; researching, writing, producing, and editing in-depth stories for radio, TV, and online; supervising the WFIU/WTIU News Bureau's interns and statewide stringers; serving as one of several liaisons to the national PBS and NPR news operations and state (IPBS) news network. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Telecommunication, or a related field and one year of experience working in public broadcasting or a journalism related endeavor. In-depth understanding of journalistic principles, particularly as they apply to public media. Hands-on experience in writing, reporting, editing, production, and on-air delivery for both radio and TV. Experience working with multi-platform technologies and ability to adapt material to a variety of platforms. Ability and judgment to produce a large quantity of work to deadline that matches the quality of NPR and PBS productions. Ability to teach solid newsroom protocols to students. Working Conditions / Demands Must be able to travel, view, hear, and speak. Travel needs to be accomplished to deadline requirements. Must be able to handle about 30 pounds of audio / video equipment. Must be able to sit at a computer for extended amounts of time. Able to utilize audio and video recorders, digital field equipment, on-air broadcast consoles, digital download boards, computer interfaces, news multi-platform software.
