Job Title Multimedia Journalist Job Description I. Job Summary | Major goals and objectives. The Multi-Media Journalist (MMJ) Reporter at Arizona’s Family CBS 5 & 3TV (Meredith Corp.) develops and presents content which will attract the largest available audience to the station’s newscasts. This position works with Producers to create the newscast. The News Anchor covers news in the field, writes stories and edits and/or rewrites copy when needed. When reporting, you will develop and present content which will attract the largest available audience to the station’s newscasts. This position works with Producers to create the newscast. The News Reporter covers news in the field, writes stories and edits and/or rewrites copy when needed. Work performed is for all media platforms and initiatives, including for example: on-air, web, digital and social media. II. Essential Job Functions Weight % Accountabilities, Actions and Expected Measurable Results 50% The MMJ duties are regularly performed in which he/she gathers information and images in the field for broadcast, station website(s) and all current and future media platforms. Records moving video and takes still pictures. Determines appropriate lighting for all video/picture platforms. Works collaboratively with Multi-Media Photographer-Journalist or alone. Writes exceptional news copy for broadcast, station website(s) and online text. Reports newscasts when scheduled. Covers news stories. Writes and edits news copy. Edits video on Avid computer system. 25% Edits images/video captured for live broadcast, station website(s) and all current and future media platforms. Works with Producers to create newscasts, teasers and promos. 15% Posts news content including text, video and still images to website(s). Works with News Director, Managing Editor and Producers to plan and prepare for special event coverage. 10% Strategically engages in social media. Conducts interviews and makes personal appearances on behalf of the station. Works with promotion department in promoting the news product. 100% III. Minimum Qualifications and Job Requirements | All must be met to be considered. Education: Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism or related field, or equivalent training and/or experience. Experience: Three years television reporter/photojournalist experience and/or six years as a primary anchor & reporter for commercial /public television. Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Excellent verbal and written communication skills; Must be a skilled communicator with ability to connect with a diverse audience. Ability to meet deadlines. Ability to carry 40-100 pounds. Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights and weekends. Ability to shoot and edit with speed, efficiency and creativity in a newsroom or field environment. Ability to produce high quality news stories across all content platforms. Fluency in Spanish preferred. Must have a valid Arizona Driver’s License and a clean driving record. Non-linear editing experience preferred Ability to blend words and video into interesting and informative television news stories. Ability to assimilate information quickly. Ability to compile and summarize information into a clear, concise and understandable presentation. Ability to conduct meaningful and interesting interviews. Must do story research and have knowledge of script writing, news gathering and editing.
