Investigative Data Reporter – WRAL-TV WRAL News has a unique opportunity for an experienced reporter with a passion for public records, data storytelling and collaborative journalism to join a thriving newsroom that values in depth reporting, enterprise work, and data-driven content. The Investigative Data Reporter will be part of WRAL’s Data Trackers team and will collect and analyze local, state and federal public records to discover impactful trends or storylines. This reporter’s work will appear both online and on air, and an interest in both mediums is a must. This person will be engaged in research, searching for patterns and connections in data, and be responsible for creating and updating databases as needed. This individual should be skilled at producing written stories based on analysis of the records, as well as presenting the work on television in a variety of formats. The reporter will also work with developers and multimedia designers to create interactive and visual representations of data for digital and on-air platforms. Qualifications: Knowledge of public records and open meetings laws Experience requesting, organizing and analyzing public records Database reporting and/or research experience Knowledge of, and experience with, data visualization tools, and graphic design skills On-air television reporting experience or the interest and ability to learn the medium Three to five years’ investigative and/or data reporting experience People come to WRAL and they stay.
