Category: News Position/Title: Managing Editor Details: I. Job Summary | Major goals and objectives. The Managing Editor oversees daily newsgathering efforts of reporters and photographers. He/she ensures resources are deployed on stories that best fit station strategies and makes certain those stories are presented in the most engaging ways. The Managing Editor works closely with the Executive Producers, and the Content Desk, to ensure our coverage is competitive and delivers on our unique brand promises whether broadcast or digital medium. He/she copy edits reporter scripts, ensuring balance, accuracy, and excellent story telling. II. Essential Job Functions Weight % | Accountabilities, Actions and Expected Measurable Results 60% Oversees reporter/photographer news gathering efforts. Directs each reporter on priorities for coverage. Ensures that brand strategies are implemented daily. Copy edits reporter scripts. Works with reporters to create engaging stand-ups or live shots as assigned. Performs work for all media platforms and initiatives, including: on-air, web, digital and social media. 15% Coordinates with Executive Producers for optimum newscast placement. 15% Coaches and develops reporters along individual growth plans. 10% Planning: Participates in special coverage planning as well as long-term strategy development. 100% III. Minimum Qualifications and Job Requirements | All must be met to be considered. Education: Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism or related field, or equivalent training and/or experience. Experience: Minimum of five years’ experience in newsroom management. Must possess previous news writing experience.
